Reno 1868's Kelly wins Golden Boot, Wehan Assist Crown

Dane Kelly wins the 2017 USL Golden Boot with 18 goals scored. Reno set a new USL record with 75 goals this season.

Coming into the season, Reno 1868 striker Dane Kelly was the all-time leading scorer in USL history. Yet, he had never won the league's scoring title, or "Golden Boot". That changed this season as Kelly scored 18 goals to lead Reno's top-flight offense, good enough to lead the USL and finally take home the hardware.

The Jamaican born Kelly now has 66 career goals over his six year career.

His teammate Chris Wehan was also named the Assist Champion after setting a new USL record with 12 assists. Wehan, who also finished third on the team with 8 goals, will be a leading candidate for USL Rookie of the Year. He took home those honors as the season's midpoint.

Reno set a new USL record with 75 goals this season and with 59 points earned the number three seed in the upcoming USL Playoffs.

1868 plays host to the sixth-seeded OKC Energy this Saturday night at Greater Nevada Field. The two teams split this season, each winning at home. Reno topped OKC 3-0 on September 20th behind Lindo Mfecka's hat trick. Kelly has missed the last few matches with a hamstring injury, but has been progressing on the road to recovery. His status for Saturday's game is still uncertain.

Match time is set for 5:45 p.m. You can watch the game live on My 21 TV with coverage starting at 5:30

Whoever advances will play the winner of #2 San Antonio and #7 Tulsa.
