Reno, NEV — Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve and Councilwoman Naomi Duerr say they have more questions about the recent shooting of two dogs who snuck into a neighbor's backyard in Double Diamond. One of dogs was killed.
The homeowner says he shot the dogs because they were acting aggressively and he said he felt threatened.
Reno Police ruled the shooting was justified, but there have been lingering questions including whether there is video of the incident. A report by Washoe County Animal Control officers refers to a video on more than one occasion, but Reno Police tell News 4 there is no video. Reno Police also insisted they were not the investigating agency until we followed up and confirmed the case is in their jurisdiction.
Police have told us the case is closed.
But Mayor Schieve and Councilwoman Duerr say they have directed the city manager to reopen the investigation and ask more questions. Schieve tells News 4 she wants to know why neighbors were not interviewed. Duerr says she's concerned about the use of a gun in a congested area within city limits.
