Sparks woman dies after falling off cliff in Southern California
A northern Nevada woman died Friday afternoon after falling off a seaside cliff in the Los Angeles area of San Pedro, according to a report from KNBC-TV.
The Los Angeles Fire Department tweeted that firefighters responded at 2:13 p.m. to help police and coroner’s office personnel at the scene of the fall near Point Fermin.
Coroner’s officials identified the woman as Lorena Barrera, 21, of Sparks, the report stated.
Investigators said Barrera was new to the area and wanted to see the beach. They added that she climbed up a 3-foot barrier that separates the walkway and the cliff, tripped over her sandals and plunged to the rocks below, the TV station reported.
Signs warning the public of the unstable and deep drop below are posted in the area. The cliff has been the site of multiple deadly falls through the years, according to the report.
