LDS Church President Thomas S. Monson dies at 90
Thomas S. Monson, president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, died Tuesday at the age of 90, the church announced.
In a statement released late Tuesday night, the LDS Church said Monson died in his home in Salt Lake City with family around him.
Monson had been president of the LDS Church since February 2008. He was hospitalized in April last year, a spokesman for the church said at the time.
The church then announced in May that Monson was stepping away from day-to-day involvement in LDS matters, citing limitations due to his age.
A successor is not expected to be chosen until after his funeral, according to the statement released Tuesday.
