An elderly man in Texas confronted two suspects caught on camera sneaking into a townhome complex, leading to a shootout.

According to the Houston Police Department, the shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. early Saturday.

Police say a 60-year-old man was awake and spotted two men walking through a busted board of the wood fence that surround his townhome complex. After knowing that there had been multiple car burglaries, the elderly man went out to confront them to leave the premises.

That's when the suspects pulled out their guns and started shooting and the elderly man returned fire, police said.

The elderly man was shot in the leg and one of the suspects was shot several times. The suspects fled back through the fence, but one of them collapsed in the next-door apartment's courtyard on a flight of stairs.

Both the suspect and the elderly man were taken to the hospital. Police said the 60-year-old man is expected to be okay, but the suspect is in critical condition.

The other suspect involved has not yet been found and police say the suspect appears to be a Black male in his late 30 to 40s.

The investigation remains ongoing.
