WCSD Transportation Dept. responds to local mom's overcrowding school bus video
A video posted on Facebook by a local mom about her son's experience riding a Washoe County School District bus has been viewed more than 20,000 times and has been shared more then 460 times.
On Monday, August 13, the mom posted on Facebook acknowledging that her video had gone viral and encouraged parents to contact the WCSD Transportation Department with similar concerns.
The video appears to show her son sitting on a school bus seat, along with what seems to be four other students cramped-up, all sharing the same seat.
She adds in her video post that her son no longer wants to ride the school bus, and that kids sometimes have to sit on the aisle when the bus is too packed; she said in her post that she does not feel that her son is safe riding the school bus.
The Washoe County School District's Transportation Department provided the following statement to News 4 on Monday, August 13 about the situation:
During the first two weeks of school, the WCSD Transportation Department works hard to determine where we need to add more bus runs due to transportation needs. We endeavor to do this as efficiently as possible, as we transport nearly 20,000 students to and from school each day. We appreciate parents’ concern, and are addressing the issue as quickly as we can.
News 4 & FOX 11 will follow-up on the third week of school to see how the WCSD Transportation Department are addressing the issue.
