The Washoe County School District is looking at calendar options for the 2019-2020 school year -- and asking for your input.

The district is asking what features the community likes about the current balanced calendar, what the community does not like, and presents four new calendar options for review.

These four new calendar options are:

  • The current balanced calendar; containing a 1 week fall break, a 3 week winter break, and a 2 week spring break. Starts the second week of August
  • A new calendar; containing a 1 week fall break, a 2 week winter break, and a 2 week spring break. Starts the second week of August
  • A new calendar; containing a 1 week fall break, a 2 week winter break, and a 1 week spring break. Starts the second week of August
  • A new calendar; containing no fall break, a 2 week winter break, and a 1 week spring break. Starts later in the fall

Some past calendar options, such as multi-track or the balanced calendar, have been used as means to address ongoing overcrowding issues.

WCSD also surveyed the community and held public meetings in 2011, resulting in the current balanced calendar. It was adopted by the Washoe schools' board of trustees in 2012.
