RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — Local inmates and students from the University of Nevada graduated together today in a criminal justice class at the Washoe County Detention Facility.
The class, based on the national Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program, included a regular discussion between inmates and students about perceptions related to crime, justice, corrections, and imprisonment.
Earlier today nine "outside" students and seven "inside" student received certificates of completion from the course.
Prior to enrollment, potential candidates on both sides had to go through an intense screening process.
This is the third time the University of Nevada, Reno and Washoe County Sheriff's Office have partnered to bring the inside-out program to the Washoe County Detention Facility.
