A suspect is dead after a Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputy-involved shooting Friday morning in Spanish Springs.

Spokesman Bob Harmon says the shooting happened around 10 a.m. on Aug. 4 in the area of Calle de la Plata and Pyramid Hwy.

Washoe County Sheriff Chuck Allen tells News 4-Fox 11 that a deputy responded to a suspicious vehicle in a ditch when some kind of confrontation between a lone male and the deputy ensued. At that time, the deputy requested emergency back-up. Sheriff Allen says there appears to have been some kind of use of force prior to the deadly use of force.

The deputy involved in the shooting was examined and treated for what Sheriff Allen calls minor injuries on scene.

The Reno Police Department will be the lead investigating agency as part of the regional officer-involved shooting protocol.

Sheriff Allen confirms that the deputy will be placed on administrative leave.

Calle De La Plata is closed at Pyramid Hwy. You are asked to use Alamosa Dr. as an alternate route.
