Summer camps, activities aplenty for kids in northern Nevada

    The sun-soaked days of summer break are on the horizon in northern Nevada.

    And after the students exit the school halls, there are plenty of camps and activities for kids to enter this summer.

    Great Basin Naturalists

    -- Located at Galena Creek Visitor Center

    -- New themes include The World of Birds, The Power of Plants, and Animal Adaptations

    -- For kids ages 8-12

    Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows Summer Camps

    -- Camps available in Reno, Sparks, Fernley, Ely & Winnemucca

    -- For kids ages 6-18

    Reno Parks, Recreation & Community Services Camps for Kids

    -- Vacation Station, Performing Arts, Outdoor Adventure, and Music camps are all available

    Reno Pops Summer Music Camp

    -- Camp runs from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m.

    -- Located at Vaughn Middle School

    -- Students applying are asked to have at least one year's experience with an instrument

    Sparks Summer Outburst

    -- Held from June 15 to August 7 for kids entering 1st-7th grades

    Kids University at the University of Nevada, Reno

    -- Choose from themed, week-long camps designed to incorporate the academic STEAM components

    Summer art classes at Nevada Museum of Art

    -- Spots are open for the weeks of June 19-23, July 24-28, July 31-Aug. 4, Aug. 23-Sept. 27, Aug. 26-Sept. 30

    Arts for All Nevada classes and camps

    -- Week-long art camps with a variety of themes, age groups and locations

    Camp Discovery Summer 2017

    -- Spots still available for several weeks and age groups

    2017 Wolf Pack Camps

    -- Youth camps available for baseball, football, basketball, soccer, tennis, volleyball, cross country, cheer, softball and track and field

    Kids Café summer program

    -- Summer lunch meals begin June 12 at several locations. Breakfast offered at select locations, as well.

    -- Meals are free for kids ages 1-18, and they do not need to be enrolled in any program.

    -- Meals must be eaten on site

    Nell J. Redfield Free Neighborhood Playground Program in Sparks

    -- Open to kids in 1st-6th grade who attend elementary school in west Sparks: Agnes Risley, Alice Maxwell, Florence Drake, Greenbrae, Kate Smith, Lincoln Park and Robert Mitchell elementary schools

    -- Available Monday-Friday, June 12 to July 28, at Ardmore Park from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    -- Free lunch provided by the Food Bank of Northern Nevada

    Kids Bowl Free Programs

    -- Two Reno bowling locations, the GSR bowling center and High Sierra Lanes, Carson Lanes in Carson City, and Frontier Fun Center in Fernley are participating in a "Kids Bowl Free" program

    -- Kids under age 15 can receive two free games of bowling each day during designated times
