South Lake Tahoe Police: Woman's drowning death ruled accidental
Officials said in a statement Tuesday a woman found dead in the Upper Truckee River near South Lake Tahoe last year drowned accidentally.
Pamela Suwinsky, reported missing by her ex-husband a year ago to the day (April 3, 2017), was later found dead six days later by the El Dorado County Dive Team within a mile of her hotel, according to a statement.
Investigators initially said the circumstances surrounding her death were suspicious -- though the first autopsy showed that she had drowned -- because of concern about how the drowning occurred. Authorities said Suwinsky's ex-husband had made "suspicious statements." The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) conducted a full homicide investigation into Suwinsky’s death as a result.
Authorities said in a statement that several search warrants were executed and numerous interviews were collected in different jurisdictions over the course of the investigation, including in Sacramento and San Jose, California.
Given the evidence collected, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and partnering agencies are confident Suwinsky's death was an accidental drowning, they said in a statement.
