'Secret Santa' spends $46,000 on strangers' layaway bills at Reno Walmart

A 'Secret Santa' paid off $46,000 in layaway items at the Reno Walmart off Second Street Tuesday.

“When customers quietly pay off others’ layaway items, we’re reminded how good people can be," company spokeswoman, Tara Aston, said. "We’re honored to be a small part of these random acts of kindness.”

The Mariscal family landed on the nice list and had their layaway gifts paid for. Esmeralda Mariscal was making payments on a TV and tablet for her kids' Christmas presents when the donor paid the remaining $200 balance Tuesday.

Mariscal said the gift came after she had been hit with a financial burden. Watch her story below:

The donation coincides with Walmart's holiday layaway period which starts August 31st. Customers have until December 10th to make final payments and pickup their items.

Other "Secret Santas" have popped up around the country in places like Philadelphia and Atlanta.
