RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — The Regional Transportation Commission of Washoe County will dedicate the multi-use path along the SouthEast Connector segment of Veterans Parkway as part of the Erica Greif Memorial Bikeway on Saturday, September 22.
A ceremony will take place near the intersection of Veterans Parkway and South Meadows Parkway at 10 a.m.
Erica, a UNR graduate and Reno-based competitive cyclist, was killed in a car crash while driving to a California bike race on April 8, 2015.
“Dedicating the multi-use pathway at the SouthEast Connector in honor of Erica Greif is our way of remembering Erica’s legacy in the bicycling community,” said RTC Executive Director Lee Gibson. “At the same time, we are looking forward as we create a more walkable and bikeable community that will be enjoyed by outdoor enthusiasts for generations to come.”
Erica is survived by her mother, Trish, her father, Doug, her brother, David, and her grandparents, Dr. Roy and Ellen Rheuben and other family members, many of who will attend the dedication ceremony. The Reno Wheelmen, a competitive cycling group, will also attend the ceremony and plan to raise their helmets in honor of Erica.
The RTC will unveil a sign at the dedication ceremony, and mark the occasion with a tribute ride in celebration of Erica’s life.
