Man killed at intersection of Wells Ave. and 6th St. Friday identified; suspect arrested

Reno Police say a 66-year-old man was killed in a hit and run at the intersection of Wells Avenue and 6th Street early Friday morning.

According to a Reno Police spokesman, it happened about 4:12 a.m. when police received a call about a body in the roadway.

When police arrived, officers found Richard Pratt dead the southbound lanes of Wells Ave.

Officers say an employee called them reporting that the suspect had arrived to the shop with the suspect vehicle trying to get the windshield of his vehicle replaced. Upon arrival, they located the suspect and his vehicle.

26-year-old Cruz Ochoa was arrested and charged with Hit and Run Causing Death, Hit and Run Failing to Render Aid, Passing a Vehicle Stopped at a Crosswalk and Driving Without a Driver's License.

The intersection was closed for a few hours while police investigated and reopened at around 8:30 a.m.

Reno Police's Investigative Team responded and say the suspect was driving a yellow Chevrolet Monte Carlo after reviewing video and interviewing witnesses.

Police say the suspect vehicle did not stop at the scene after striking the pedestrian, and was last seen fleeing south on Wells Ave.
