The Reno Police Department Victim Services Unit will host orientation sessions for people interested in at attending their volunteer Victim Advocate Academy July 5 and July 10 at 6 p.m.

Orientation will be held at the Regional Public Training Center on Spectrum Blvd.

Victim advocates provide crisis intervention and coordinate emergency and other support services by phone to victims who have experienced domestic violence, stalking, protection order violations, and other victimization.

The Victim Advocate Academy will begin in October.

No prior training is required and the academy will consist of 40 hour month-long training program, along with shadowing a mentor and a police ride along.

Interested applicants must be 18 years or older and able to pass a background investigation and drug test.
