Reno woman charged with 3 counts of DUI causing substantial bodily harm after crash

A Reno woman has been charged with three counts of driving under the influence causing substantial bodily harm after a crash in south Reno in early April.

Sgt. Alan Hollingsworth said in a press release that the toxicology report for Virginia Couch, 32, came back positive for alcohol.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. on April 4, emergency personnel responded to an injury crash on South McCarran Boulevard and Mira Loma Drive.

When officers arrived, they learned that a black Jeep had broken down and pulled to the side of the road just north of the intersection. A second vehicle arrived on scene to assist getting the Jeep restarted.

Hollingsworth says all three occupants were outside the vehicles when Couch was travelling northbound on South McCarran Boulevard and struck both vehicles and their passengers.

All three people sustained major injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. A juvenile suffered life-threatening injuries, says Hollingsworth.

Couch tried to leave the scene of the crash and was creating a physical disturbance. Couch was initially placed under arrest for battery on a police officer and obstructing and resisting a police officer.

Couch was rearrested on Friday, April 20.
