The Reno Police Department would like to warn the public about a real estate scam going around.

The scam is deceiving residents into sending money to fraudulent companies, by way of spoof accounts.

Reno Police would like to advise the public to use caution when replying and complying with instructions provided by email accounts.

Here are a few things too look closely when receiving these kind of emails:

  • Look closely at the email account name, its characters and domain name, to avoid being a victim of fraudulent activity.
  • Confirm the instructions via telephone from the contact information from your real estate company and contact your bank.
