No shortage of flu vaccines in Nevada despite some clinics running out
We're in the early stages of the flu season, yet some clinics in Washoe County are already out of the flu vaccine.
Heidi Parker with Immunize Nevada says even though some clinics are running out of the vaccine, that does not indicate that there's a supply shortage.
"What's probably happening is that smaller offices only order vaccines for the flu season," she said. "That's just how smaller offices function. They're not going to have a lot of vaccines on hand. If they don't use it, they have to throw it away."
Parker said the state of Nevada is on track with getting the flu shot in comparison to last year. Less than 400,000 people have been vaccinated this flu season.
The season often runs from October to May, peaking after the holidays.
According to Washoe County Health District, a total of 122 patients have an influenza-like illness so far this season.
