A new elementary school in south Reno will be named for the late Nick Poulakidas, the school district announced Tuesday.

Washoe County School District trustees met Tuesday, Nov. 14, to determine a final name for the new school in the South Meadows area.

Poulakidas worked for the school district for more than 30 years and was a principal at Lincoln Park Elementary School in Sparks.

He died from a heart attack suffered during a PTA conference, according to the school district.

The other two names being considered were Ann Carlson, a retired teacher who taught at Roger Corbett Elementary School for 34 years, and John Bohach, a Reno police officer who was killed in the line of duty.
