Nevada basketball success gives ticket, merchandise sales a boost
The Nevada men's basketball team sat atop the Mountain West standings entering Wednesday, and the team's success has given a big boost to sales of tickets and merchandise.
The Wolf Pack is 20-4 for the 2017-18 season, including 9-1 in conference play. Those wins have contributed to a 5 percent increase in sales for the month of January at Silver and Blue Outfitters.
Sales over the past year have gone up 10 percent as well.
Owner Mark Glodoski said customers have been buying basketball-related merchandise, and sales should only increase if the team continues to win.
Attendance has also gone up at Lawlor Events Center. Athletic Director Doug Knuth said the team had been averaging about 4,500 fans in the last couple of seasons.
This year, the average attendance is around 9,000, and with double the attendance, the athletic department is seeing more revenue that goes back to the university's teams, Knuth said.
