Body of missing Fernley woman recovered near Six Mile Canyon

Authorities have recovered the body of a missing Fernley woman after being found inside a pickup truck that appeared to have crashed near Six Mile Canyon Road in Storey County, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies with both the Storey County and Lyon County sheriff's offices responded Thursday, Dec. 14, at about 2 p.m. to a report of a crash on Six Mile Canyon Road, near the county line.

They found the truck in a ravine off the north side of Six Mile Canyon Road, according to a statement from the sheriff's office.

Inside the truck was the body of a woman who had been identified as Nancy Vandenput, 57, who was last seen in Fernley on Wednesday, Nov. 22.

The Storey County Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances of the crash.
