Colonel Donald "Doc" Ballard, a Medal of Honor recipient for his actions while serving in the Vietnam War, arrived in Reno Thursday.

Ballard will be the keynote speaker at a sold-out dinner benefiting Honor Flight Nevada and Nevada Veteran Suicide Prevention Friday at the Nugget in Sparks.

In one day, he avoided being killed by three grenades, two of which he threw back toward the enemy before the grenades exploded.

Ballard said he appreciates the honor, but that he wants to see all veterans receive recognition every day.

News 4-Fox 11's Ryan Kern will be introducing Ballard at the event.
