SPARKS, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — A man was arrested in Sparks after a police pursuit Monday night that ended with the suspect crashing.
Sparks Police Department (SPD) officers located a stolen motor vehicle in the 2200 block of Oddie Blvd. on Nov. 28 shortly before 8:30 p.m. The vehicle, a 1998 Honda CRV, left the area while officers were attempting to determine if it was occupied.
SPD officers attempted a traffic stop just after 8:30 p.m. but the vehicle fled.
Officers pursued the vehicle briefly, however at the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle failed to negotiate a slight turn near the 2300 block of E. 9th Street, just west of Silverado Boulevard and struck a vehicle in the intersection. The stolen vehicle then veered into a yard on the south side of E. 9th Street where it struck a parked vehicle. The vehicle then drove through a rod iron fence, hit some vegetation and rolled at least once.
The vehicle eventually came to rest in the front yard of an unoccupied residence.
Authorities say the driver of the vehicle, identified as 28-year-old Reno resident Miguel Vargas-Cortez, was cooperative after the crash and was arrested without further incident. A stolen firearm was also located in the vehicle. Vargas-Cortez was arrested on the following charges:
