Deal turns deadly: Reno man arrested for murder after Grove Street shooting
Reno police have arrested a suspect in the shooting death investigation in the 100 block of East Grove Street on Thursday, February 8.
According to Lt. Zach Thew, detectives learned that prior to the shooting incident, Patrick McDaniel had been in possession of various firearms, ammunition, and explosive caps that were later determined to have been stolen from a California law enforcement agency.
On February 6, during the late evening hours, McDaniel and a friend transported the firearms, ammunition and explosive caps to 175 E. Grove St. to sell the items.
While in the parking lot, 34-year-old Mike Kizer, a participant in the transaction, produced a firearm and shot McDaniel multiple times.
Thew says Kizer then fled the scene in McDaniel’s vehicle which contained the merchandise. McDaniel was transported to a local hospital where he later died from injuries. His vehicle was located abandoned the morning after the shooting.
On February 8, detectives located Kizer at a business in the 200 block of North McCarran Boulevard in Sparks and took him into custody.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for an apartment in the 2100 block of Sutro Avenue. The search warrant was executed during the early morning hours on February 9 by the Reno Police Department SWAT team with the assistance of detectives, police negotiators and the Consolidated Bomb Squad. The search resulted in the recovery of the involved firearms and explosive caps. Ammunition and additional items stolen from the California law enforcement agency were also later located and recovered by investigators.
Kizer is being held at the Washoe County Detention Facility on murder charges.
