A juvenile is behind bars after accidentally shooting someone in the face in Sparks last week.

Just after 9:30 p.m. on April 19, officers with the Sparks Police Department responded to 1125 Avenue of the Oaks Drive on the report of a man suffering with a gunshot wound to the face.

The victim, who was later identified as Eric Duvall, was taken to the hospital and put in the intensive care unit with a substantial injury to the lower half of his face.

Detectives determined that two people were with Duvall in a common area bathroom where the incident occurred. After a review of security footage, a search warrant for evidence and witness statements, police determined the shooting was accidental.

The suspect that fired the gun was booked into Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center and charged with disregard for the safety of a person with substantial bodily harm and aiming a gun at a person.
