'It rained tree everywhere' says Reno man after lightning strikes tree in front yard
Tree branches rained down on a Reno neighborhood Friday afternoon after lightning struck a tree near Skyline Boulevard and Juliann Way.
Fionn Whitemore was home with his wife and three young boys around 4:00 p.m. when every window in his house started shaking.
"I've never been around a bomb but that's how everybody described it," Whitemore said. "The whole house was so white, you couldn't really see."
And then it rained tree everywhere.
Some shards flew over 100 feet from the tree, landing in neighbors' yards and covering local streets with debris. One piece shattered Whitemore's truck window.
Miraculously, no one was hurt and nearby homes had only minor damage.
"I wish I could explain it properly ... very surreal," Whitemore said. "If anybody is talented with woodworking, maybe we can get somebody over here to turn this into a sculpture."
