VIRGINIA CITY, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — A Storey County man has been arrested on suspicion of killing his wife more than two years ago, according to the sheriff's office.
Bret Black, the husband of Judy Black, turned himself in to the Storey County Sheriff's Office Thursday after a warrant was issued Wednesday for his arrest on a charge of open murder, Sheriff Gerald Antinoro said in a statement.
Antinoro said Bret Black, represented by Reno attorney David Houston, is being held in Storey County Jail.
His bail is set at $250,000, and he will return to court on Sept. 30 to enter a plea.
Judy Black died in 2014 after falling down the stairs in her home in the Virginia Highlands.
The cause of death was initially ruled an accident, but Antinoro reversed that about a year later and ruled it a homicide. Her family believed the scene had been too grisly to have been an accident.
Several county residents met in a town hall back in April to discuss the case. Antinoro said at the meeting that the sheriff's office was still investigating.
