High elevation snow leads to chain controls over mountain passes

Chain controls were in effect for a few hours early Tuesday morning, as high-elevation snow made travel difficult on mountain passes.

NVRoads.com reports chains or snow tires were required on Mt. Rose Highway from Fairview Blvd. to Bulls Eye.

California chain controls include:

  • SR-89 from Pickett's Junction to U.S. 50
  • SR-88 from Red Lake Creek to Martins Meadow.

According to CHP - Truckee, chains are not required on I-80 over Donner Summit at this time.
