Health district offers tips to keep your kids from getting sick this cold & flu season
The number of cases tied to Washoe County's viral meningitis outbreak has officially risen to 54 cases countywide in 2017, according to health officials.
Several preventative measures can be taken to ensure you and your kiddos aren't getting sick this cold & flu season.
Health officials say that getting a flu shot is the most effective way to avoid getting sick.
Always make sure your personal belongings and work space are disinfected. That includes: desks, keyboards, mice, phones, etc. Parents are encouraged to pack sanitizing wipes with their children.
While hand sanitizer kills most germs, health officials say it does not kill the bacteria that causes viral infections, so make sure you are washing your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds at a time with either cold or warm water.
Sneezing into shoulders and elbows will limit germs from spreading around a classroom or office.
If you are feeling ill, make sure you stay home for at least a day until symptoms subside.
