Grinch attempts to steal Christmas during annual Shop with the Sheriff event
A suspect is behind bars after attempting to steal nearly $800 worth of merchandise from a local Walmart during the annual Shop with a Sheriff event on Tuesday.
Bob Harmon with the Washoe County Sheriff's Office says that security officers at the Walmart on 155 Damonte Ranch Parkway stopped 33-year-old Travis Volpicelli as he was walking out the doors with a cart full of merchandise that was not paid shortly before 7 p.m. on December 5
Washoe County Sheriff's deputies assisted Walmart security and took the 33-year-old into custody.
Volpicelli was booked into the Washoe County Jail on charges of felony grand larceny and an unrelated warrant out of Sparks Justice Court.
Sheriff Chuck Allen and numerous deputies were inside the Walmart store for the annual Shop with the Sheriff event. The event gives 250 children each $200 to spend on themselves and their family for holiday gifts.
