RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — A flag from the U.S.S. Reno that was on loan from the Department of Navy was stolen after vandals broke in to Reno City Hall on Saturday night.
City of Reno spokesman Jon Humbert says the case where the flag was once displayed was smashed and the tag was ripped off and left behind. The flag has yet to be found.
City staff could not confirm if this specific flag was burned during the riots.
The men of the U.S.S. Reno were credited with shooting down five enemy airplanes and assisted in the downing of at least two more at Iwo Jima.
