1 person arrested for arson in fire reported at Peppermill in Reno
One person has been arrested after firefighters responded to a report of a fire in the Peppermill Resort's north tower in Reno on Tuesday.
The extent of the fire wasn't immediately clear, but a Reno Fire Department official said the interior sprinkler system contained the fire, with firefighters knocking it down.
Crews worked on clearing out smoke and helping guests. One person received medical treatment for smoke inhalation.
The first three floors of the north wing were evacuated, according to Battalion Chief Mike Pilcher. Some water damage was reported on the floors below the affected area.
In a statement released Wednesday, Fire Marshal Tray Palmer said a second fire, smaller than the first, was reported a short time later in a different tower, and that Peppermill security detained a suspect.
Joseph Occhiuto, 25, is being held at the Washoe County Jail on two counts of arson.
