A 53-year-old Fernley man faces up to 20 years in prison after he was convicted of leaving the scene of an accident that seriously injured a motorcyclist in Sparks last summer.

A Washoe County District Court jury found Robert Totman guilty of felony hit and run after he crashed into a 33-year-old man whose left leg had to be amputated below the knee.

Totman earlier pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in connection with the August 2017 accident.

Sparks police tracked him down hours later after they determined he had been working for a local property management company dropping off sand bags in the industrial area near the Truckee River.

Prosecutors say it was his third DUI offense in the past seven years.

His sentencing is set for Aug. 6.
