One minor injury in explosion at Delta Saloon in Virginia City; 'C' St. reopens to traffic

    At approximately 9 a.m. this morning, March 12, an explosion occurred at the Delta Saloon in Virginia City.

    According to the Storey County Manager, Pat Whitten, the cause of the explosion is currently unknown but there is extensive exterior damage to the saloon.

    Gas has been shut off in the surrounding area as a precaution, following inquiries of it being the cause of the explosion.

    One person was reported to have suffered minor injuries in the blast.

    The Virginia City courthouse is located just across the street from the Saloon, and was evacuated temporarily as a precaution.

    C street has reopened to traffic after being closed for several hours.

    The Storey County Fire Protection District and Central Lyon County Fire are currently responding to the incident.
