Firefighters cleared out every room at a downtown Reno apartment building after a dumpster fire filled some units with smoke, according to the fire department.

The dumpster fire was reported just after 2:50 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8 at the Courtyard Center Apartments on the 600 block of W. 3rd Street.

When crews arrived, they that while the fire was outside the building, smoke had traveled up the garbage chute and into several units.

Firefighters had to go room by room to clear out the smoke and check on people, a department spokesman said. One person was taken to a hospital due to smoke inhalation.

No damage has been reported at the building, but 3rd Street is blocked between Washington and Ralston for the response.
