UPDATE -- 8/8/18

The man has been identified as 21-year-old Ramneek Singh Bains from Yuba City, California, according to Lt. Shannon Laney with the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

The body of a 21-year-old California man has been recovered, after officials say he jumped off a boat in Lake Tahoe over the weekend and never resurfaced.

On Saturday, August 4, just before noon, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded to the call of a man who reportedly jumped off a boat near a beach area of Stateline. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department Marine Unit and several other agencies responded, but after several hours of searching, officers were unable to locate the man and were forced to suspend the search until weather conditions permitted them to safely continue.

On August 5 at 8:00 a.m., officers from multiple agencies returned to the location to continue searching for the missing man. Outside agencies included the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department, Washoe County Sheriff’s Department, The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, Tahoe Douglas Fire Department, and The United States Coast Guard. Specialized resources were utilized including two cadaver dogs and a total of eleven search and rescue divers.

After tirelessly searching for several hours, a cadaver dog aboard a patrol vessel alerted officers to an area where dive units ultimately located and recovered the deceased male. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Coroner Unit was notified.

The identity of the deceased male is being withheld at this time pending next of kin notification. He was described as a 21-year-old California resident.
