YERINGTON, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — One person has been extricated and taken to a local hospital after an aircraft rolled over at the Yerington Airport, according to the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.
The Yerington Police Department said in a statement released Thursday evening that officers responded just before 9 a.m. to the airport on a report of an aircraft accident.
Arriving officers found a single-engine airplane overturned on the west side of the runway, according to the statement, with the pilot trapped inside the cockpit.
Firefighters were able to extricate the pilot, who was the only person in the plane. The pilot, identified as a resident of Wellington, Nevada, was taken to South Lyon Medical Center for treatment. That person was released later in the day.
According to police, the plane was a 1986 RV-4. It veered sharply to the left after landing, leaving the runway. The landing gear came into contact with soft soil, causing it to roll over.
The National Transportation Safety Board is handling the investigation.
