A suspect in a kidnapping case was taken to a hospital with unknown injuries after crashing Tuesday afternoon in Sparks, according to police.

Officer Ken Gallop said in a statement authorities learned about a kidnapping and robbery reported Monday, Oct. 16, on Satellite Drive.

The suspect was identified and found on Tuesday, Gallop said. He left a home in the area of the 100 block of Rae Court and drove away in a white SUV at a high rate of speed, heading east on David James Boulevard near Pyramid Way.

The suspect lost control, and the car hit a ditch, rolling onto its roof, according to Gallop. Firefighters and medics arrived on scene and extricated him from the vehicle.

He was the only person in the car, and all people involved in the case have been found, according to an officer on scene. Authorities also found two firearms in the car, police said.

The suspect, identified as Mario Aguirre-Cairo, was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries sustained from the crash.

He was then taken to Washoe County Jail following medical clearance, and he has been booked on suspicion of two counts of first-degree kidnapping with a deadly weapon, robbery, grand theft auto, possession of stolen property and driver disobeying an officer.

The investigation is ongoing, Gallop said, and anyone with information in the case is asked to call police at 353-2225 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.
