WELLS, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) -- A British Columbia resident has died in crash on U.S. 93 north of Wells, Nevada this past weekend.
According to NHP, on January 12, 2019, at around 8:30 a.m., troopers responded to a fatal vehicle crash on U.S. 93 approximately 15 miles north of Wells.
During the preliminary investigation, troopers found that Mr. Oscar Vandenbossche, age 82, from Osoyoos, British Columbia, Canada, was driving a Toyota Rav 4 southbound on U.S. 93. Mr. Vandenbossche attempted to pass a slower vehicle in the dense fog and collided head on with a Dodge truck traveling northbound on U.S. 93 pulling a horse trailer with 3 horses.
Troopers say the Dodge truck was driven by Mr. Chad Jones, age 27, from Pendleton, OR. and sustained minor injuries; the three horses in the trailer had no visible injuries.
The right front passenger in the Toyota Rav 4, Mrs. Maryann Vandenbossche, age 81, from Osoyoos, British Columbia, Canada, died at the scene, according to NHP. Mr. Vandenbossche was flown to University of Utah where he is in critical condition. Both occupants were wearing their seatbelts.
NHP advise drivers to use extreme care when driving in poor weather and road conditions.
