Annual Reno-Tahoe Bike Challenges kicked-off on June 1
The 2018 Tahoe Bike Challenge begins on June 1 and will run until June 14 at Blue Zone Sports at 2011 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.
The event is organized by the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and the Lake Bicycle Coalition and its purpose is to see teams and individuals compete by racking up the most trips and miles biking, walking, or taking transit.
The idea is to help increase biking and walking by students, residents, and visitors, and offer prizes to the teams and individuals that report the most trips and miles.
Participants can enjoy free food and refreshments, free bike tune-ups, a bike rodeo for children, bicycling classes, and even a bike parade.
In the past twelve years of the event, participants have contributed to reducing pollutants from vehicles by making tens of thousands of bike trips.
This year's bike event is sponsored by Blue Zone Sports, California Highway Patrol, Clean Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Unified School District, Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, League to Save Lake Tahoe, Tahoe Optimists, and Vail's Epic Promise.
