Knowing Nevada: Baseball blowout on the state capital grounds
As the Reno Aces kick off season number 10 in Reno, we're looking back at the states first ever baseball championship game that was played on the state capital grounds in Carson City in 1869.
When the Carson City Mint opened in 1870, two young men were hired from the east coast and taught their new coworkers about the game 'base ball' being played on the east coast.
Eventually, they formed a team called the Carson City Silver Stars and challenged a fellow base ball club in Virginia City to a round of games.
To see the result of the game and learn about a rematch that happened more than 100 years later, watch the story above.
