Wooster High School student named Class Act
True friends rise to the occasion in times of crisis, and a student at Wooster High School is just about as good a friend as you can get! She is also News 4's Class Act Award winner for the month of April.
On Wednesday, evening anchor Shelby Sheehan surprised senior Zona Hairgrove with the award.
Zona's best friend and classmate Haley Stevenson was diagnosed with lymphoma in July.
Haley's parents say Zona has been by her side ever since, shaving her head when Haley lost her hair, always being a text away for support and organizing a big school fundraiser for her friend at the end of football season through her leadership class.
The "Pink Out" event brought together Wooster and Sparks high schools to raise money, raise Haley's spirits and let her know even though she wasn't in school, everybody was still thinking about her.
Zona did all of this though her leadership class at Wooster and continues to do volunteer work in the larger community when she gets the chance.
She will be attending Black Hills State University in South Dakota in the fall and plans on studying education.
Congratulations to Zona Hairgrove, News 4's Class Act Award winner.
Her friend Haley is also doing well, with her cancer now in remission.
