Westergard student named Class Act Award winner
A student at Westergard Elementary School is doing her part to keep things green in her community and this month she is News 4's Class Act Award winner!
Evening anchor Shelby Sheehan surprised fifth-grader Emily Williams in front of her classmates on Wednesday.
Emily worked with her principal to organize a "Green Team" at her school recently.
The group of about 30 students meets once a week during recess. They figure out how to recycle things that can't be recycled in the traditional fashion.
The students also work to get kids to bring fewer non-recyclables in their lunches.
Just recently the team got the whole school involved in their green efforts with a contest of who could put out the least amount of trash, by weighing what comes out of each classroom.
Emily will be moving on to middle school next year, but she is leaving behind a great legacy and program for school.
Congratulations to Emily Williams, News 4's Class Act Award winner for the month of May!
