Ryan Kern began his career in Reno in November, 2012 reporting for Fox 11 and now anchors News 4 at 11 Monday through Friday. Ryan has reported and/or anchored every show at News 4 over the years from 5:00am through his current 11:00pm shift. He also has his own series called “Knowing Nevada” that airs on News 4 nightly every other week. The series covers current and relevant topics throughout the great state of Nevada that have past, present and future context to them.
Ryan is from the greater Los Angeles area and studied communications and journalism at both Santa Barbara City College and San Jose State University before calling northern Nevada home. He also lived in Evanston, Illinois for a brief period of time in 2010 where he hosted his own sports talk radio show over the Chicago airwaves. Every now and then, you can catch him with the sports team on “News 4 Sports Insiders with Samudio and Margulies” on ESPN Radio 94.5 FM.
Northern Nevada has more than enough to offer Ryan to keep him happy throughout each season. In his spare time, you can catch him snowboarding, golfing, hiking, camping, fishing, watching baseball and eating at every In-N-Out Burger location across the region.
Ryan is actively involved in several communities throughout northern Nevada. In his first several years in Reno, he helped raise more than $100,000 for the SPCA of Northern Nevada. Now, Ryan spends much of his free time working with local veterans and helping to raise money and awareness for Honor Flight Nevada. The non-profit flies Nevada veterans to Washington D.C. for free to see the sights and memorials built in their honor. Ryan has been on six trips with the group himself covering their stories and raising awareness for the organization.
