Three northern Nevadans head to NCAA Women's Tournament
Reno High's Mallory McGwire, Shay Shaw and Gigi Hascheff, along with Reed's Gabby Williams are all NCAA Tournament bound.
Mallory McGwire and her Oregon Ducks made their team's first NCAA Tournament since 2005. McGwire has started 20 games for Oregon this season and is averaging 7.4 ppg and 4.1 rpg. The #10 seeded Ducks are headed to Durham, North Carolina to play #7 seeded Temple. Their game tips at 3:30 PM PT on Saturday.
Shaw is heading to the NCAA Tournament with the Boise State Broncos for the second time in her career. Shaw has started 19 of the Broncos games this season and is averaging 10.3 ppg and 7.2 rpg. She also had 12 pts and 9 rbs in the team's Mountain West Tournament win over Fresno. The Broncos are seeded 13th and will play #4 seed UCLA at Pauley Pavillion on Saturday at 3:30 PM PT.
Hascheff is bound for the Big Dance with Long Beach State. The junior guard has started 19 games for the 49ers this season and is averaging 6.5 ppg and 2.1 rpg. The #15 seeded 49ers will take on #2 seeded Oregon State at 2 PM PT on Friday in Corvallis, Oregon.
Williams success this season has been long documented. The UConn Husky is up for the Naismith Player of the Year award and recorded the programs fifth ever double-double this season. The #1 seeded Huskies host #16 seeded Albany at home on Saturday at 8 AM PT.
