Reno 1868 FC heads to Sacramento for Donner Pass Derby match against Republic FC

Reno 1868 FC will aim remain undefeated against rival Sacramento Republic FC in the latest installment of the “Donner Pass Derby” Saturday night.

Reno and Republic FC square-off at 7:30 p.m. at Papa Murphy’s Park in Sacramento.

Reno is riding a five-match undefeated streak and is coming off a 1-1 draw against Tulsa Roughnecks FC. Reno has been on a four-match road trip that has spanned 5,000-plus miles across the country and will be looking for its first three points of the trip Saturday night.

The last time these two clubs met, they battled to a 2-2 draw at Greater Nevada Field.

Reno won both the home and away leg of the regular season rivalry last season prior to that draw.

This season, Reno is being led by a mixture of veterans and new faces.

Newcomer and forward Danny Musovski leads Reno with three goals but veteran attacking midfielder Lindo Mfeka has posted two goals in the past five matches.

Sacramento sits in third place in the Western Conference with 18 points and has remained a mainstay in the Top 8 despite a new staff this season. Cameron Iwasa leads the club with three goals this year while Christian Eissele has a couple to his name.

Reno will return home May 16 for its Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against Portland Timbers U-23 (7 p.m. at Greater Nevada Field). Reno’s next home USL match after the Donner Pass Derby will be May 19 against Seattle Sounders 2 at 7:15 p.m.
