Nevada's Meek named MWC Co-Golfer of the Week
RENO, Nev. – Following the first tournament win of his career, sophomore Sam Meek has been named the Mountain West Co-Golfer of the Week. Meek will share the honor with Shintaro Ban of UNLV.
Meek, who joined the Wolf Pack earlier this semester from Southern Illinois University, captured a win earlier this week at the El Macero Classic, besting his teammate Grant Booth by one shot. The individual crown essentially came down to No. 18 where Meek made birdie to close his round and Booth bogeyed his final hole. For the week Meek led the entire field by making 12 birdies through his 54 holes of play.
He carded one of the lowest scores of the final round with a 1-over 73. For the tournament Meek finished at 1-under par, the only player to finish under par through the three rounds of play. It marked the first win for Meek and the Pack’s first individual winner since Kevin Lucas won the Pacific Invitational in the fall of 2011.
This is the first Mountain West Golfer of the Week given to a Nevada golfer since Jooho Lee earned the honor in April of 2015.
Nevada will take its momentum into the upcoming Mountain West Championship, which will take place April 20-22 at Gold Mountain Golf Club in Bremerton, Wash.
