NEVADA SWIMMING AND DIVING: Zheng and You earn Mountain West honors
Reno, Nev. —
Following yet another historic season, Nevada senior Sharae Zheng has been named the Mountain West Diver of the Year, while her coach Jian Li You earned MW Diving Coach of the Year honors, the conference announced Tuesday.
“I couldn’t be more proud of our rich diving tradition,” Nevada head coach Brendon Bray said. “Year in and year out, Jian Li gets the most out of her divers and we are all very lucky to have her here at Nevada and work with our team. Sharae is simply the best diver to ever compete at Nevada and in the Mountain West. She is an inspiration to be around on the pool deck and our top 25 finish at NCAA Championships is due to her performances. Both Jian Li and Sharae are very deserving of these honors.”
This marks the second consecutive year that Zheng has received the accolade after sweeping all three diving events at the 2018 MW Championship, which is also the second straight season she has accomplished the feat. While at Nevada, Zheng finished her career earning eight gold medals at the conference meet, which is a Mountain West record.
At the 2018 NCAA Championships, Zheng earned medals in the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard, finishing third and second, respectively, in those events. Her pair of top-three finishes at the NCAAs, brought her career total to four NCAA medals, after winning the title in those same events in 2016.
For You, this marks the sixth consecutive season that she has won MW Diving Coach of the Year, as she has now earned nine conference diving coach of the year honors in her tenure at Nevada. She has coached a conference diver of the year in seven straight seasons while being named the diving coach of the year every season Nevada has competed in the Mountain West.
You is looked upon as one of the best diving coaches in the country and has built Nevada to be one of the premier diving schools in the region.
