It turns out the two dogs that attacked and killed another dog in Sun Valley attacked two other dogs, killing one of them last year. This lead one view to ask, "Why was the owner of the two pit bulls who attacked two other dogs last year allowed to keep the dogs?"
Joe checked with Barry Brode, Director of Washoe County Animal Services, and the reason the dogs who attacked the other other dog were let off the "leash" -- proverbially speaking -- is because the owner of the slain dog agreed to dismiss the case under several conditions.
The owner of the dogs responsible for the attack was obligated to hold to the following conditions:
- Fix broken gate to prevent dogs from escaping
- Supervise dogs more closely
- Pay vet bills for slain dog
