Ask Joe: When will closed-off lane on S. Virginia Street re-open?
From the Ask Joe file, we are digging into a question about a local construction project that's impacting some drivers.
A.J. Cotterell wrote in to ask when the blocked lane on southbound Virginia Street just across from the Convention Center will be re-opened. A.J. says it's been fenced off for two or three weeks and he's hoping that lane will re-open soon.
Here's what I found out:
We went and checked it ourselves. Traffic does get a little congested with that lane blocked off.
I checked with the city of Reno about it. Spokesperson Lauren Ball says this is part of a private construction project for the new Dutch Brother's coffee store that will be going in on that lot.
Ball says the company got a permit from the city to close that lane so they could install a sidewalk in front of the business. So that's what crews are doing now. You can see the sidewalk has been installed if you drive by there.
The good news is Ball says the lane should be back open by the end of the day on Friday, June 23.
There are quite a few road construction projects going on around town. In fact, RTC is doing some pothole repair work along South Virginia Street. That work will continue at night for the next few weeks.
Always remember to slow down when you see those cones. Remember you can be fined double if you're caught speeding in a construction zone.
